Animal Keeper Internship

Wild Discovery is looking enthusiastic and hardworking people who are looking to gain experience in a zoological collection.

We are offering vacancies for full time, voluntary keeper internships for a period of 3 months throughout 2022. These positions provide successful candidates with the opportunity to gain valuable experience in a developing zoo environment.

Applicants can choose between three different internship to undertake for three months. These internships are:

Mammal Internship

-This internship specialises in the husbandry and welfare of small mammals, including wallabies, capybara, reindeer, Zebu and domesticated species.

Bird Internship

-This internship specialises in the husbandry and welfare of flamingos, softbills, weavers, wading birds, toucan and waterfowl.

Tropical Internship

-This internship specialises in the husbandry and welfare of primates, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates, bats, meerkats and armadillos.

Candidates will be trained in a variety of skills including husbandry, record keeping, enclosure maintenance and nutrition. We run monthly workshops and encourage all to get involved to learn further skills such as rope splicing, CV and interviews, to name a few.

Essential requirements:

All positions are voluntary. Unfortunately, Wild Discovery cannot provide any financial support to applying candidates however a full uniform is provided.

Interns operate on a rota basis, working 4 or 5 days out of 7. Candidates must be prepared to work weekends and bank holidays.

This is a full-time position.  The successful candidate will work on a rota basis, including weekends, bank holidays and occasional evenings, therefore flexibility is essential.
